Meet the Instructor
Frank Groth is the chief trainer for SRF Training and Consulting.
With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, personal safety, physical and industrial security, Frank brings wide ranging base of knowledge and experience. Frank also enjoyed a second successful career in the tech sector in operations; creating processes, policy and procedure, managing a high performing team, creating and publishing documentation, providing training and most recently as a business analyst.
Frank has written on a variety of topics on his blog, The View From Out West, including firearms and personal defense issues. Some of his articles have been picked up by nationally recognized trainers.
Summary of Skills
In his law enforcement career Frank worked in patrol, investigations, and administration. He researched and prepared policy, created and delivered training to in service officers, and served as both a front line supervisor and administrator.
Frank holds certifications from the National Rifle Association as an instructor for Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun. He is also certified as a Range Safety Officer and a Level One Coach in sporting shotgun. From 2010 to 2016 he was an instructor in a very successful sporting shotgun program hosted by Valley of the Moon Trap Club in Sonoma, California training hundreds of new, intermediate and advanced shooters.
Frank holds certifications from Rangemaster as a Master Pistol Instructor and instructor in Protective Pistolcraft, as well as instructor certification in Basic and Advanced Defensive Shotgun. He holds certification from Last Resort Firearms Training as an instructor in Response to Active Shooter incidents, and from Texas A&M Extension as an instructor in Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events. Frank is a certified instructor in the use of and deployment of pepper spray, and holds an instructor certification in Shooting with X-Ray Vision from Tactical Anatomy Systems.
As a lifelong learner, Frank has trained with some of the best instructors working today including Tom Givens, Darryl Bolke, John Murphy, Greg Ellifritz, Rob and Matt Haught and many more. Experience and instructor led training have instilled the mindset that Frank teaches; to recognize and avoid threats, but to be mentally prepared, with practiced skill sets and applying deliberate decision making.
